Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia and Oceania. Indonesia comprises 17,508 islands. With a population of around 238 million people, it is the world's fourth most populous country, and has the world's largest population of Muslims. Indonesia is a republic, with an elected legislature and president. The nation's capital city is Jakarta. The country shares land borders with Papua New Guinea, East Timor, and Malaysia. Other neighboring countries include Singapore, Philippines, Australia, and the Indian territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Indonesia is a founding member of ASEAN and a member of the G-20 major economies.

The Human Rights Resource Centre and Mazars Indonesia have agreed to sign A Memorandum of Understanding for future cooperations in the field of human rights.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Marzuki Darusman as the Executive Director of HRRC and Mr. James Kallman the President Director of Mazars Indonesia.

Tribute to Asmara Nababan: Book Launching, "Oasis in all Agitations"

In commemoration of Mr. Asmara Nababan, Indonesian Civil Society DEMOS (Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Study), ELSAM (Institute for Policy Research and Advocacy), INFID (International NGO Forum on Indonesia Development), KontraS (The Commission for the "Disappeared" and Victims of Violence), and the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) held a book launching titled "Asmara Nababan: Oasis for all agitations" as a tribute to Mr. Asmara Nababan who passed away on 28 October 2010. This book tells story from Asmara's childhood to period when he became an honest, humble and inspiring human rights activist.

It is with the deepest sadness and sorrow that the HRRCA announces the passing of one of its governing board members, Mr. Asmara Nababan on October 28, 2010 in Fuda Cancer Hospital, Guangzhou, China. Asmara was 64.

We are honored to be able to work with him in his last endeavor of establishing the HRRCA in promoting human rights in the ASEAN region.

Our heart goes now to his family, his friends and all who were close to him.

Launch of a New Human Rights Center in Southeast Asia

The Human Rights Resource Centre for ASEAN (HRRCA) was officially launched today by H.E. Patrialis Akbar, Indonesia's Minister of Law and Human Rights, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta. Attended by NGOs, academic institutions, and diplomats, the launch demonstrated the deep support for the promotion and protection of human rights in Southeast Asia through the establishment of a strong network of academic institutions
